Hometown Hero Murray and Djokovic Both Advance at 2011 Wimbledon

Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic and England’s Andy Murray have both advanced at the All England Lawn and Tennis Center at Wimbledon 2011. Djokovic from Serbia imporived to 45-1 to date in 2011 with his 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 win over the number 19 seed, Frenchman Michael Llodra. The only blemish on Djokovic’s 2011 record came during the French Open semifinals in a 7-6(5), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(5) loss.

Murray, the number four seed, eliminated the number 17 seed, Frenchman Richard Gasquet 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, 6-2 on the famed Centre Court. Murray will make his fourth consecutive Wimbledon quarterfinals appearance. He is trying to give Britain its first male Wimbledon champion since Fred Perry took home the crown in 1936. Awaiting Murray is Spain’s Feliciano Lopez in the next round, as the unseeded Spaniard defeated Lukasz Kubot, 3-6, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (9-7), 7-5, 7-5.

Elsewhere on the men’s side, American Mardy Fish upset 2010 Wimbledon runner-up and number six-seed, Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, 6-4.
