St. John’s Women Top Fordham in Big East Action

Senior Yanita Arnaudova tallied her third-consecutive victory at the number three singles slot to clinch the St. John’s women’s tennis team’s 5-2 win over inter-city rival Fordham on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Storm improve to 8-6 overall and have now won three in a row dating back to its 6-1 victory over Big East rival Providence on March 29.

Arnaudova, along with doubles partner Anna Morozova, also clinched the doubles point win an 8-6 win at the top doubles slot to give SJU the early 1-0 lead. Morozova kicked singles off with a 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 2 slot followed by a 6-2, 6-1 victory from senior Diamond Adams at the fourth singles. It was the White Plains, Md. native’s third-straight singles win.        

Freshman Stephanie Elgegren posted the final Red Storm point of the evening with a straight set, 6-3, 7-6(4) win over the Rams’ Julie Leong at fifth singles.
