Two months after New York Beach Tennis was formed, and after much hard work, the fruits of that labor continued to pay off with another sold-out tournament on July 19th at Crest Hollow CC courtesy of New York Beach Tennis (NYBT) and its growing player base.

“NYBT has infused life into the beach tennis community in New York this summer, using its vast resources to create a young, athletic and talented base of players that is growing daily,” said David Sickmen, founder and president of NYBT as well as a NYBT player and owner/publisher of United Sports Publications  “There is such a positive buzz around what we are doing, and so many good tennis players and athletes are getting involved. To have full draws, professional organization and great people involved has made it a fun Summer on the sand for myself and many others. Everyone is happy!”

As music played in the background, players mingled between the Jamba Juice Players Hut, the John McEnroe Tennis Academy beach games and the beautiful pool at Crest Hollow that is just steps away from the courts. The New York Islander Ice Girls made an appearance hitting a few shots on the sand and taking pictures with the players. On the court, the action was competitive and fierce.

"I am really pleased with the turnouts of the NYBT tournaments and to see so many new beach tennis players at Crest Hollow,” said Brad Berger, who played in the tournament. “People get hooked on this sport very quickly, and with so much new competition, we can all look forward to a great summer!"

In the Men’s Final, David Sickmen &Bertrand Coulet took on Devin Wakeford & Anthony De Ingeniis. Many of the players who had already had a long day in the sun pulled up chairs and poured a few drinks and got ready to watch a great final and the players didn't disappoint. The first set went to a tie-breaker, which was won by Wakeford & De Ingeniis. Sickmen & Coulet were not to be denied on this day though and they stormed back to win the second set 6-2. Sickmen & Coulet used that momentum in the third set as well, winning it 6-4 to claim the NYBT Championship.

“The Men's Final was exciting and everyone played great,” said Meryl Otis Kessler, an NYBT player.

In the Women’s Final, Roxy Enrica & Monica Ondrusky took on Julia Koubalaya & Liz Kobak. After winning the first set in a tie-breaker, Enrica & Ondrusky took the second set as well 6-3 to win the match and the championship. Enrica and Ondrusky dominated throughout pool play and were clearly the best team on this day.

“I really enjoyed the entire tournament,” said Monica Serban, who played in the Women’s draw. “NYBT did a great job in organizing and the setting of Crest Hollow Country Club was beautiful."

"Thank you to NY Beach Tennis for hosting another great tournament and to Devin Wakeford, David Sickmen and Bertrand Coulet for an action packed finals,” said men’s finalist Anthony De Ingeniis. “Best tournament I've played so far!"

The tournament was a huge success and the fun is not done for NYBT and its players. The next tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 2, with another slated for Saturday, Aug. 16. The summer season wraps up with a free end of season Open Play/Carnival Party for all NYBT players. NYBT will also be taking its player base to exciting events in the final days of the summer, such as Taste of Tennis and The Johnny Mac Project Night, featuring Novak Djokovic on Aug. 21 and Arthur Ashe Kids Day and Party With the Pros on Aug. 23.
