New Yorkers Loeb and Elbaba Among Women’s Field in Inaugural American Collegiate Invitational

The USTA has announced that New York’s Jamie Loeb of the University of North Carolina and Mitchell Frank of the University of Virginia, will join NCAA champions Marcos Giron of UCLA and Danielle Collins of the University of Virginia, as competitors in the inaugural American Collegiate Invitational at the 2014 U.S. Open. The winners of the American Collegiate Invitational will receive main draw wild card entries into 2015 U.S. Open, if the men’s champion is ranked 250th or better and the women’s champion 150th or better. Otherwise, the winners will receive 2015 U.S. Open qualifying wild cards. The champions will also get wild cards into two USTA Pro Circuit events, while each runner-up will get one. The full, eight-player fields are as follows:

On the men’s side, Giron, Frank, Thompson, McDonald, Sarkissian and Kobelt earned their spots as members of the USTA Collegiate National Team, while Collins, Loeb, Elbaba, Brady and Ahn are the women’s Collegiate National Team members in the field. UCLA’s Robin Anderson was also named to the women’s Collegiate National Team.

Administered by the USTA and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the USTA Collegiate Team is an elite training program for the nation's best collegians. It is designed to provide college players with valuable exposure to the USTA Pro Circuit in a team-oriented environment during the year. The program began in 1996 and is funded by the USTA.

Current and former pros who were members of prior USTA Collegiate Teams include: John Isner, Bob and Mike Bryan, James Blake, Steve Johnson and Nicole Gibbs.
