Maria Sharapova has qualified for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals in Singapore, the WTA announced Tuesday. The former world number one is the second to qualify for the October finals, after Serena Williams was announced as the top seed last week.

“I am really excited to qualify for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global and to bring the best in women’s tennis to Singapore this October,” said Sharapova on her official website.

The appearance marks the seventh time that the Russian will be participating in the WTA Finals. In her debut in 2004, Sharapova knocked off Williams to win the event after coming back from 4-0 in the third set. She was a finalist twice, losing to Justine Henin in 2007 and Williams in 2012, but was unable to participate in last year’s due to a shoulder injury that forced her to miss the final four months of the 2013 season.

Sharapova captured the fifth Grand Slam of her career at the French Open this summer, and has reached the semifinals or better in seven WTA tournaments this season. She lost a three-set thrilled to Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki in the fourth-round of last week’s US Open.

The WTA Finals will be held from October 20-26 in Singapore, and with two spots in the tournament already booked, there are just six spots remaining in the WTA’s crown jewel event.
