Lincoln, Neb. native Jack Sock will miss the Australian Open after undergoing hip surgery, he said in a tweet Thursday. The 22-year-old is the fourth-highest ranked American, and concluded 2014 ranked 42nd in the world. He will also miss the rest of the Australian summer circuit which includes the Hopman Cup where he was due to partner with women’s world number one Serena Williams.

Top-ranked American John Isner will replace Sock as Serwena’s partner.

Sock enjoyed the best year of his career in 2014, winning the Wimbledon doubles title with Canadian Vasek Pospisil, upended the powerhouse Bryan Brothers in a fantastic five-set final match. He reached his first semifinals on the tour by defeating Isner in Newport, R.I. and notched a win over now-fifth ranked Kei Nishikori in Shanghai.

In his tweet, Sock indicated that he hopes to return to action at the Memphis Open in early February.

As of now, Sock is the only men’s player ranked in the top 100 that will not be in the Australian Open, which begins Jan. 19 from Melbourne.
