The USTA has announced that the 2014 USTA National Winter Championships will be held Dec. 27-Jan. 2 in the Scottsdale and Tucson, Ariz., area, drawing the top boys and girls nationwide in the 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s age divisions. The players competing in this tournament are vying for the title in the last national tournament of the 2014 season.

Each age division consists of 128 players for the singles draw and 64 teams for the doubles draw.

The field for the Boys 18s Division will feature Nathan Ponwith of Scottsdale, Ariz., currently ranked 12th in the nation. Leading the Girls 18s Division is Jesse Aney of Rochester, Minn., currently ranked fourth in the Girls 18s. The Boys and Girls 16s will include top-ranked players Patrick Kypson of Greenville, N.C., and Grace Joyce of Newton, Mass.

The 12s and the 14s will take place in Tucson, and the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center will serve as the main host site.

Headlining the Girls 14s field is Katie Volynets, a Walnut Creek, Calif. native who won this summer’s USTA Girls 12s National Championship. Number five-ranked Brandon Nakashima of San Diego is one of the top players in the Boys 14s Division. In the 12s Division, third-ranked Aiden Mayo of Roseville, Calif. is among the top competitors on the boys side, while fifth-ranked Gabriella Price of Montebello, N.Y., is the top seed in the girls field.

The USTA National Winter Championships is a National Level 1 Ranking Tournament, the highest level of USTA national tournaments. Players must meet ranking requirements and be selected to compete. The finals for the singles and doubles and 3rd/4th place playoffs will take place Jan. 1-2, at Scottsdale Ranch Park in the 16s and 18s, and the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center for the 12s and 14s.
