Venus Williams has announced her withdrawal from the United States Fed Cup playoff against Italy this weekend due to a personal matter.

The USTA has named 21-year-old Lauren Davis as Venus’ replacement this weekend. Davis is currently ranked 57th in the world and recently defeated world number seven Eugenie Bouchard on her way to the Family Circle Cup quarterfinals.

Playing in her second Fed Cup, Davis will join world number one Serena Williams, 45th-ranked Alison Riske and 65th-ranked Christina McHale on the American team.

Led by Captain Mary Joe Fernandez, the American squad will travel to Italy with Serena taking on Sara Errani in the opening match at the Circolo Tennis Brindisi.
