The Lacoste Junior Tennis Academy returns for its 30th season this summer, and will hold tryouts for the Academy on May 16  from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Run by the City Parks Foundation, the Academy has helped develop youngsters into tournament-caliber players who have earned college scholarships and USTA rankings. It provides free coaching, practice time and tournament sponsorship to defray the high costs of tournament-tennis training so more urban youngsters have a chance to realize their potential.

In the program’s history, more than 100 participants have earned either a USTA ranking or a college scholarship.

The Academy offers:

►FREE tournament-training sessions
FREE tournament entry fee sponsorship for selected USTA-sanctioned events
FREE travel expenses to selected national junior tournaments for ranked players
Specialized clinics with world class coaches
Counseling and placement assistance for collegiate tennis scholarships

The tryouts are open to all New York City residents ages eight through 17 (must be a U.S. citizen) and for players of all ability levels.

Fifty players from the tryouts will be selected for the program. The first round of the tryouts will feature an on-court evaluation of athletic ability and tennis skills by a staff of tennis professionals. Those who pass the first-round of tryouts will be asked to come back on Sunday, May 17 to be evaluated in match-play situations.
