Andy Murray had to get past two opponents on Sunday in order to capture the Aegon Championships, and he did so, defeating Viktor Troicki in a semifinal match before downing Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-4 in the final.

First, Murray and Troicki resumed their semifinal contest after rain suspended play on Saturday night. The Scot edged Troicki in a second-set tiebreaker to complete the 6-3, 7-6(4) victory.

He then played near flawless tennis in the final, using a dominant serve that saw him surrender no break point chances. In the first set, Anderson was broken for the first time in the tournament as Murray went ahead 3-1.

After serving out the first set, Murray broke once again in the second set, this time at 2-2. With the break advantage, Murray held in his next two service games, and closed out the straight-set victory in just over an hour.

“I played better as the week went on and hopefully I can continue that into Wimbledon,” said Murray. “I tried to play each point and come up with some great shots. I had to play that way if I wanted to win today.”

The title marks the fourth for Murray at this Queens Club tournament. He also lifted the trophy in 2009, 2011 and 2013.

Murray will now try and do what he did here two years ago, when he won the Aegon Championships and followed it up with a title at Wimbledon.

“It’s great preparation obviously, but I think it has only happened six times where someone has won Queen’s and gone on to win Wimbledon,” said Murray. “There are no guarantees that winning here gives you a Wimbledon title.”
