American John Isner captured his third straight BB&T Atlanta Open championship on Sunday, defeating Cyprus’ Marcos Baghdatis 6-3, 6-3 for his 10th career ATP World Tour title.

“I kept getting stronger and stronger,” said Isner. “It was obvious that he was hurt on his second serve and volley. He’s not a serve and volley guy … I just tried to stay aggressive.”

Isner secured an early break point in the opening set and served his way through the rest of the set, winning the final 15 points on his first serve. Aided by an injured Baghdatis, Isner used his dominant serve to cruise in the second set for the straight-set victory, never facing a break point.

Baghdatis was bothered by a bad groin which has given him trouble over the last month, and was just unable to handle the power of Isner’s serves.

“It’s not a new injury … the muscles got really tight. I felt it immediately on my second serve and volley,” said Baghdatis. “I didn’t want to show anything, but it was impossible to control it.”

Isner, who played his collegiate tennis at the nearby University of Georgia, wins his third straight title at the Atlanta tournament and will jump up a spot to No. 18 in the rankings.

In the men’s doubles final, Bob & Mike Bryan captured their 107th career title by beating the team of Gilles Muller & Colin Fleming 4-6, 7-6(2), 10-4.
