The Empire State Open Tennis Tournament, a WTA 125K series event, will be held May 9-15, 2016 at Hempstead Lake State Park. This event will feature stars of the WTA, as well as up and coming players currently fighting their way up the rankings ladder. There is little doubt given all the star qualities offered by the Empire State Open’s proximity to New York City, it will draw an unparalleled field of players.

The Empire State Open will be representing a number of significant firsts for the WTA, as it will be the WTA event in the U.S. contested on red clay. It will serve as a lead in event to the French Open and will be the only WTA event contested on Long Island.

Located in the heart of Western Nassau County, and situated in the heart of Hempstead Lake State Park, the event will boast 12 state-of-the-art red clay courts, a 2,500-plus seat main stadium, a 1,200-plus seat “Stadium 2,” as well as outer and practice courts.

Given the Empire State Open’s intention of inspiring a new generation of tennis fans, its opening qualifying rounds, will be played May 7-9 and will kick off with the Empire State Open Kentucky Derby Classic Day. This Day will feature family-oriented events and items for all attendees.

“The prospect of putting on an event of this quality within a demographic that has more than 10 million residents within a nine mile radius is exciting to say the least,” said Tony Driscoll, tournament director of the Empire State Open. “One of the most attractive elements is the number of casual and recreational tennis fans that we can bring into the fold, enhancing both their involvement in, and enjoyment of the sport we all love so much. Both coaches and players are looking forward to playing in New York providing our fans and patrons with the ultimate tennis experience.”
