Ferrer Into Round Three at Flushing

Spain’s David Ferrer advanced to the third round of the 2015 U.S. Open on Wednesday, a 7-5 7-5 7-6(4) winner over Serbia’s Filip Krajinovic on Court 17 in in two hours and 24 minutes. Ferrer’s third round appearance is his 10th in his last 11 appearances in Flushing Meadows.

The 33-year-old Spaniard 38-9 match record this season, winning titles in Doha, Rio de Janeiro and Acapulco, and reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. An elbow injury forced Ferrer out of Wimbledon this year, and he was also forced to withdraw from the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

France’s Jeremy Chardy, the number 27 seed, awaits Ferrer in round three, as he took care of Martin Klizan Wednesday, 7-5, 6-4, 7-6(1). In eight career meetings, Ferrer is 7-1 over Chardy.
