The St. John’s women’s tennis team reached the Big East Tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon, moving past Seton Hall 4-0 in a quarterfinal match up at the Caye Tennis Center in Cayce, South Carolina.

The Red Storm looked to be falling behind early as Seton Hall captured the win at first doubles, but the second and third doubles flights for St. John’s came up big. Stephanie Elgegren and Delia Arranz won 6-4 over Julia Keenan and Katie Kim at second doubles while Anna Morozova and Jaide Collins beat Anna Fajnarova and Thandy Kangwa at third doubles to secure the doubles point for St. John’s.

Natallia Vavulina extended her winning streak at first singles to 12 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Luize Strike.

Arranz would notch a 6-1, 6-1 win over Katie Kim at sixth singles to open up a 3-0 lead for the Red Storm, and sophomore Irina Preotescu clinched the match for St. John’s with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Anna Fajnarova.

The Red Storm have now won seven straight matches overall and will take on Xavier in the semifinals. Xavier defeated Villanova in its quarterfinal match on Friday.
