World number three Andy Murray announced on Monday that he is splitting from coach Amelia Mauresmo, ending the pair’s two-year run as coach and player.

“I’ve learned a lot from Amelie over the last two years, both on and off the court. She’s been a calming influence in the team and we will all miss having her around,” Murray said in a statement. “I’ll take some time to consider the next steps and how we progress from here, but I’d like to thank her for everything she has done, she’s been an invaluable member of the team.”

The relationship was groundbreaking when Murray hired Mauresmo back in June 2014, becoming the first top male player to hire a woman as coach. In their time together, Murray was unable to add to his two Grand Slam titles, but he did reach two Australian Open finals and won his first clay-court titles a year ago in Munich and Madrid.

There was no reason given for the split, but Mauresmo had her first child last August, and indicated that the constant travel did become a challenge.

“Working with Andy over the last two years has been a fantastic experience for me,” said Mauresmo. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of the great team of people he has around him.”
