Serbia’s Viktor Troicki upset Rafael Nadal 6-3, 7-6(3) in the second round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters, beating the Spaniard for the first time in his career to reach the third round.

“I played really well. I was aggressive, I served well and I hit the ball nice,” said Troicki. “It was a great feeling on the court playing like this and playing like this against Rafa Nadal, who is a great champion. It makes it extra special to beat him for the first time, especially in such a big tournament like Shanghai.

I’m really glad how I played. Happy how I played. I hope I will continue to do that in the next rounds.”

Troicki did play an aggressive style, hitting big forehands and going for his shots, which kept Nadal on the defensive. Nadal managed to save one match point to force the second set into a tiebreaker, but Troicki was just too on, dominating the tiebreaker to advance in straight sets.

He will take on 15th seed Roberto Bautista-Agut in the third-round. The Spaniard got past American Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 in his match on Wednesday.

Below are the other third-round matches in Shanghai:
