Mmoh Upsets Zverev In Brisbane

American qualifier Michael Mmoh continued his breakout week at the Brisbane International by notching a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 victory over eighth-seed Mischa Zverev to reach the tournament’s quarterfinals.

Mmoh, who only won his first ATP main draw match in the tournament’s opening round, books his spot in the final eight in Brisbane.

He will take on Australia’s Alex De Minaur, who upset fourth-seeded Canadian Milos Raonic 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday.  

Third-seed Nick Kyrgios needed more than two hours to move past Matthew Ebden 6-7(3), 7-6(5), 6-2 to clinch his spot in the quarterfinals. He will take on Alexandr Dolgopolov, who was a 6-1, 6-2 victor over Horacio Zeballos.

On the women’s side, second-seed Karolina Pliskova cruised past American CiCi Bellis 6-1,, 6-1 in second-round action on Wednesday. The former world number one will take on last year’s U.S. Open quarterfinalist Kaia Kanepi of Estonia in the quarterfinals.

Third-seed Elina Svitolina cruised into a quarterfinal matchup with fifth-seed Johanna Konta by downing Croatia’s Ana Konjuh 6-3, 6-1.
