World number three-ranked Roger Federer of Switzerland has advanced to the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships. He defeated Mikhail Youzhny in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to improve his overall record against the Russian to 12-0.

Federer looked to be in good form at the net and broke to lead 3-2 eventually winning the first set after Youzhny failed to return his serve. Federer wasn’t pressured in the second after he quickly broke in the first game to lead 1-0. The match was won after he gave an effective kick serve.

Federer is now looking to win his fifth title in Dubai and will play either Juan Martin del Potro or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semis.
