Tottenville Beats Wagner in Season Opener

The boys high school season in New York City is underway this week and Tuesday played host to four matches.

In a Staten Island showdown, the Tottenville Pirates went on the road and defeated Susan Wagner 4-1.

The lone win for the Falcons of Susan Wagner came from its top singles position and Shawn Jackson. The sophomore, who won last year’s Mayor’s Cup, defeated Tottenville’s Philip Belmatch, 10-8.

But Tottenville showed its depth, and notched victories in the remaining two singles contests as well as the two doubles flights. Joseph Namtalov and Joshua Khenkin won at second and third singles, respectively.

Tottenville will host New Dorp in its next match while Wagner will welcome McKee/Staten Island Tech.
