The High School of American Studies at Lehman College advanced to the PSAL “A” Division second-round on Tuesday afternoon, moving past Susan Wagner 3-2 in a New York City playoff matchup.

It was the singles play that helped push the Senators past Susan Wagner. Lucas Suhl nailed down a 10-7 win over Susan Wagner’s Aaron Jackson at second singles, and Bennett Abeles defeated Ilya Umansky 10-3 at third singles to help lead the Senators.

Needing one more victory to advance, Jeremy Shemesh and Michael Model did just that in the first doubles flight, defeating Joshua Davis and Patrick Mikucki 10-2 to seal the deal.

The High School of American Studies will take on seventh-seed Townsend Harris next.

The Patriots of Francis Lewis moved into a second-round matchup with sixth-seed Cardozo, defeating Midwood 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon. Francis Lewis was able to win two singles matches, and swept both doubles matches as Adrian Tam and Ervin Wong won 10-7 at first doubles and Jonathan Ubaydov and Justin Schreiber won 8-2 in the second doubles slot.
