Murray, Nadal Cruise Into Wimbledon Third Round

World number one and defending champion Andy Murray rolled into the Wimbledon third round on Wednesday, moving past Germany’s Dustin Brown 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

“It was a good match from my end,” Murray said afterwards. “I served well until the last few games. I returned well. I didn’t make many mistakes and hit a lot of good passing shots. I was really happy with it.”

In the third round, Murray will take on Italy’s Fabio Fognini, who was a 7-6(3), 6-4, 6-2 winner of Jiri Vesely on Wednesday.

Murray and Fognini are 3-3 versus one another all-time.

Two-time semifinalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Italy’s Simone Bolelli 6-1, 7-5, 6-2.

“Today, it was good because I won,” said Tsonga. “That’s the most important thing, I think, to win. I think I can play even better. And if I have to if I want to do better in this tournament.”

Tsonga will take on American Sam Querrey next. The 24th seeded Querrey beat Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Joining Querrey in the third round is fellow American Steve Johnson, who won 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 over Radu Albot. Up next for Johnson is seventh-seed Marin Cilic, who moved past Florian Mayer 7-6(2), 6-4, 7-5.

French Open champion Rafael Nadal defeated American Donald Young 6-4, 6-2, 7-5, setting up a showdown with 30th seeded Russian Karen Khachanov.

Khachanov outlasted Thiago Monteiro 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(3), 7-5 on Wednesday.

Other Wednesday winners on the men’s side included Kei Nishikori, Gilles Muller, Roberto Bautista-Agut, Aljaz Bedene, Kevin Anderson and Benoit Paire.
