The U.S. Open announced on Tuesday that the total prize money for the 2017 tournament will be $50.4 million, which makes it the largest purse in tennis history, up about $4 million, or nine percent, from last year’s winnings.

“Five years ago, we committed to the players that total player compensation for players would reach $50 million at the U.S. Open,” said USTA President Katrina Adams. “And we are honoring that commitment.”

The singles competition prize money increases by 7.5 percent, with a record $3.7 million going to the men’s and women’s champions. The overall doubles prize money is up about 8.6 percent.

The biggest increase is in the qualifying tournament, which has jumped an incredible 49.2 percent, with prize money increasing to $2.9 million.
