Tip of the Week: Key Technique Idea for the Volley

The most important technique idea on every shot is to watch the ball closely and make contact in the center of the strings.

This is even more important on the volley as you are not swinging the racquet much. Watch Federer and Nadal-as the ball is contacting the strings, they are still very focused with their head and eyes in that direction.

Keeping the contact point out in front also helps give you better vision and a solid hit. Hitting the ball solid allows you to use the pace that is already on the ball and results in your shot getting back to the opponent quickly, a key characteristic of a shot that usually gets you in control of the point.

Keep your focus on the point of contact and remind yourself to get ready for the ball to come back again-then repeat the process.
