The Metro Corporate Advanced and Advanced Intermediate League’s Winter 2015 season came to a close on Tuesday night with the end-of-season party and playoffs.

The defending champions from Team Bloomberg looked to defend its title, but came up short, as NYJTL edged out a 4-2 victory.

In men’s singles, Keith Kessler led 3-0 over Peter Wang of Bloomberg before Vignesh Venkatesan, a former top junior player in India, subbed in for Wang. Kessler notched a key break point on Venkatesan’s serve to take a 4-0 advantage, and would go on to win the match 6-0.

“I subbed in so I didn’t have my rhythm,” said Venkatesan. “I also gave Kessler a lead in the beginning and I think that contributed to his success tonight.”

Kessler also helped NYJTL pick up the win at men’s doubles. He teamed up with Peter Pine and the duo knocked off Venkatesan and Philip Shinn of Team Bloomberg 6-2.

The two teams would split the two mixed-doubles contests. John Bonnet & Ali Adamski of Team NYJTL notched a 6-1 win over Phillip Shinn & Jordan Brewer, while Venkatesan & Stephanie Tolosa of Team Bloomberg beat NYJTL’s Pine & Kat Sorroko 6-3.

NYJTL picked up the clinching win in the girls singles match as Elena Bantovska knocked off Brewer 6-3.

Team Bloomberg would win the girls doubles match as Tolosoa & Brewer paired up to beat Sorroko & Adamski of NYJTL 6-2.

“Bounces came our way tonight,” said York Chu, senior tennis program manager at NYJTL. “Bloomberg played very well and there is no doubt they will come back with a vengeance next year.”

There was more than just tennis being played at the end-of-season party as a buffet dinner and open bar were available to the participants of the event, and caricature artist Dale Gladstone was there to make caricatures for all attendees.

“The corporate league is as strong as ever,” said Pam Glick, director of special events for NYJTL and treasurer of the Metro Corporate League. “We are looking forward to growing more in the fall.”
