St. John’s Women Notch Road Win At Yale

The St. John’s women’s tennis team recorded its third victory of the spring season on Sunday, defeating Yale 5-2 in a road contest at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Connecticut.

The Red Storm was led by its top two singles players. Jessica Livianu, ranked 43rd in the country, defeated Carol Finke 6-3, 6-1 in the first singles flight, and Anna Morozova knocked off Yale’s Valerie Shklover 6-2, 6-3.

Yale would win the third and fourth singles flights, but Olaya Inclan and Jaide Collins won the fifth and singles flights respectively.

Livianu and Morozova would pair up to win the first doubles flights 6-4 over Finke and Tina Yang, and Collins and Stephanie Elgegren won the third doubles flight to seal the doubles point for St. John’s and round out the victory.

The Red Storm return to action on Friday, when it hosts LIU-Brooklyn and Hofstra at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
