Austria’s Dominic Thiem was upended by Ramkumar Ramanathan of India in the second round of the Antalya Open in Turkey on Tuesday. The 222nd ranked qualifier cruised past Thiem 6-3, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals.

“I just gave it my best and was serving well out there,” said Ramanathan. “Two or three points can often make the difference on grass. It’s a good start for my career, but it’s just a start. Hopefully I can keep it going.”

Thiem, who played 121 matches last year, was using this week to tune up his game for Wimbledon, but dropped to 1-2 on grass this year after Tuesday’s defeat.

Ramanathan broke Thiem three times and won the match’s final five games to notch the biggest win of his career.

In the quarterfinals he will take on Cyprus’ Marcos Baghdatis, who ousted Carlos Berlocq 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 on Tuesday.
