American Sam Querrey came back from a set down to defeat India’s Yuki Bhambri 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4 to book his spot in the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif. on Tuesday.

“He battled out there,” said Querrey. “I feel I didn’t play my absolute best but did a great job of competing and find a way to break serve in the third set and then doing a good job of holding on to my own serve.”

The win sets up a matchup against Spaniard Feliciano Lopez. The 28th seed ousted American Jack Sock 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-4 on Tuesday.

Second-seed Marin Cilic saw his Indian Wells run come to an end as he was taken down by 31st seed Philipp Kohlschreiber. The German broke Cilic once in each set and saved all four of the break points he faced to defeat the former U.S. Open champion in one hour and 23 minutes.

Kohlschreiber will meet France’s Pierre-Hugues Herbert for a spot in the quarterfinals. Herber led his compatriot Gael Monfils 6-2, 3-1 when Monfils retired.

Former finalist Juan Martin del Potro defeated David Ferrer for the fifth straight team in their head-to-head to reach the Round of 16 on Tuesday. The sixth-seeded Argentine beat Ferrer 6-4, 7-6(3) to set up a matchup against fellow Argentine Leonardo Mayer, who knocked off Japan’s Taro Daniel 6-4, 6-1.

“I just want to keep winning,” said del Potro. “It’s good to feel this confidence when I get to the court and I play well, but I’m going step-by-step. I will play another Argentine…which is a special match for both. It’s not easy when you play against a friend.”
