The USTA and Intercollegiate Tennis Association has announced today fields for the 2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, which will take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center’s Indoor Building Nov. 3-6.

High school students will get a chance this month to show off their powerful strokes and strong footwork, and learn about often overlooked opportunities to play college tennis from coaches at USTA Eastern’s 25th Annual College Showcase Day, set for Sunday, Oct. 30 at the Saw Mill Club in Mount Kisco, N.Y.

In the 2010-2011 fall and spring season, the Fordham University men’s tennis team had to wait until February to record its first win. The Rams went on to win three more matches to finish 4-18 on the year, landing in last place in the Atlantic-10 Conference for the fifth consecutive year. With a revamped roster and a fighter’s mentality, the 2011 Rams can’t wait to bury the past in head coach Cory Hubbard’s second season.

There is no doubt that junior rankings for kids change, and I feel strongly that the kids who are best served are the ones who don’t focus on rankings too much at a young age, but focus more on development.

For two weeks in May, I couldn’t stop following tennis. I looked forward to coming home at the end of the day and watching more tennis. It wasn’t the French Open that captivated me … it was the NCAA Tennis Championships which I loved watching on the computer and on ESPNU.
