The USTA and the Tennis Industry Association (TIA) has announced that tennis participation in 2012 grew four percent over 2011 to top 28 million players for the first time since 2009. The total number of players is the second highest total recorded since the annual survey, conducted by Taylor Research and Consulting, began in 1988.

Madison Square Garden was filled with excitement on Nov. 5th as tennis legends Andre Agassi, John McEnroe, Patrick Rafter and Pete Sampras competed in the PowerShares Series. The hype at one local tennis club was building for weeks prior to the event, as the Yonkers Tennis Center was asked to showcase their highly successful 10 & Under Tennis program on the big night.

The USTA announced that the U.S. Junior Fed Cup team of Taylor Townsend (Stockbridge, Ga.), Louisa Chirico (Harrison, N.Y.) and Gabrielle Andrews (Pomona, Calif.) captured the championship at the Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Final on Sunday in Barcelona, Spain, defeating Russia, 3-0.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has posted the names of the players who will be participating in their Junior Fed Cup and Junior Davis Cup 16-and-Under competitions, Sept. 25-30 in Barcelona, Spain. This is the first year the tournament has been held in Spain, after four years in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
