Venus Withdraws From Masters Series in Toronto

Venus Williams has announced that she will be withdrawing from the Masters Series tournament in Toronto, Canada due to an illness. Venus explained that she had not been feeling well Sunday and decided to see a doctor where it was determined that she has a viral illness that will prevent her from playing . Venus is “extremely disappointed” to not being able to play she said.

Taking Venus’s spot in the draw will be Zhang Shuai of China where she will do battle with Ana Ivanovic of Serbia. Without Venus, there is still a strong field of players that includes world number one-ranked Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, Kim Clijsters of Belgium, American Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova of Russia.
