As the calendar made the transition from 2014 to 2015, the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows played host to the USTA National Indoor Championships. The tournament featured some of the top players in the region, and consisted of five different draws, making for an exciting and action-packed series of matches throughout 2014’s final week.

The USTA National Indoor Championships continued on Tuesday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, as the tournament’s fields continued to be reduced. The Men’s Open Singles draw were the early matches of the day, as two semifinal bouts took place.

The USTA National Indoor Championships got underway at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows on Friday, as a number of men and women took to the courts. The championships consisted of five fields; men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles, and we begin the week with the round of 16 set in each draw.

The USTA Nominating Committee has announced the nomination of Katrina M. Adams as USTA chairman of the board, CEO and president to serve a two-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2015. Adams has served on the USTA Board of Directors for 10 years and is currently completing a two-year term as first vice president.

The USTA has announced that the band Fitz and The Tantrums will perform at the Opening Ceremony for the 2014 U.S. Open in Arthur Ashe Stadium at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Following the band’s performance, 3 Winans Brothers, the Grammy-Award-winning brothers Bebe, Marvin and Carvin, will take to the court to sing “The Star Spangled Banner.”

There are approximately seven million Americans who self-report that they play tennis 21 or more times per year. Of those frequent participants, more than 400,000 play in the USTA Eastern Section, which includes New York State and parts of Connecticut and New Jersey. Around 50,000 of them are dues-paying members of USTA Eastern.

The sun finally came out for the finalists of the U.S. Open National Playoffs qualifying event at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Saturday. After a week of rainy weather and matches being played indoors, the players returned outside to play in the warm weather.

USTA Serves, the national charitable foundation of the USTA, announced that it has partnered with healthcare company Johnson & Johnson and its Veteran Leadership Council to host six free Warrior and Family Tennis Day events this spring and summer in New York and Philadelphia. The tennis programs will serve as the first pilot programs to implement the USTA Serves Warrior Tennis Curriculum.

The USTA has launched a nationwide online and DVD audition for the eighth annual U.S. Open casting call. In addition, a live open casting call will be held at the Queens Theatre on July 8. Winners selected from these auditions will perform “America the Beautiful” live in Arthur Ashe Stadium during night sessions at the 2014 U.S. Open, which will be held Aug. 25-Sept. 8.

The USTA set a new Guinness World Record Sunday, with 406 enthusiastic kids ages 6-18 set the record for "Largest Tennis Lesson." Held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., the 30-minute lesson began at 9:00 a.m. with participation from several of the area’s largest tennis and education themed after school programs, including the New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) and Harlem Junior Tennis and Education Program (HJTEP).
