For the second straight night, the New York Sportimes came up short in World TeamTennis (WTT) play, but that didn't deter the home fans from enjoying all the action and atmosphere at Sportime Stadium at Randall's Island. On Tuesday night, the Washington Kastles defeated the Sportimes 23-15, as the matches were very competitive with the Sportimes giving the Kastles a hard time in each encounter.

Last night, World TeamTennis (WTT) returned to Randall's Island as the New York Sportimes played their first home match of the season at Sportime Randall's Island. A nice crowd, including former Mayor David Dinkins and the General Manager of USTA Player Development Patrick McEnroe, turned out to see two former world number ones square off as John McEnroe led the Sportimes against Jim Courier and the Texas Wild.

The Washington Kastles are now officially the winningest team among U.S. major pro sports teams. With their 25-12 victory over the Boston Lobsters in Washington, D.C. Tuesday night, the Kastles extended their win streak to 34 consecutive matches, breaking the previous record they shared with the NBA's 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers.

On Monday at the Wharf in Washington, D.C., the Washington Kastles won their World TeamTennis (WTT) season opener against the New York Sportimes, 23-15, marking their 33rd consecutive victory. The win tied the Kastles with the Los Angeles Lakers for the longest winning streak in the history of professional sports.

German standout Anna-Lena Groenefeld, a former top-15 singles player currently ranked at 19th in the world in doubles, has been selected by the NY Sportimes in the Mylan WTT Roster Draft in Indian Wells, Calif. Groenefeld, who competed for the Orange County Breakers in 2012, will be joined by her doubles partner, Kveta Peschke, formerly number one in doubles and now ranked 17th.

Andy Roddick is returning to the tennis courts this summer. The former world number one was the top pick in the 2013 Mylan World TeamTennis Marquee Draft. Roddick, who first started with Mylan WTT in 2000, will play for the Springfield Lasers. This will be Roddick's seventh Mylan WTT season and his first since 2010.

The New York Sportimes were the second best team in the 2012 WorldTeamTennis season, and with a 9-5 record, the Sportimes qualified for the 2012 WTT Playoffs. The New York Sportimes took the court for their final home match of the season Wednesday night, July 25, hosting the undefeated Washington Kastles at Randall’s Island where legends John McEnroe and Martina Hingis participated in the night’s events. With close to a full crowd that came out to support the home team one last time, there was a nice energy inside the stadium.
