Syracuse Women Defeat Top-Ranked Yale

Syracuse University Women’s Tennis team has defeated the Yale Bulldogs to advance to 39th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The Orange has defeated the highest-ranked opponent in the program history, 4-3, against the Bulldogs, and has jumped up to the school’s highest ranking to date.

Sophomore Aleah Marrow clinched the win against Yale for Syracuse. Knotted up at 3-3, the match came down to court six as Marrow went to a third set with Bulldogs freshman Amber Li. Marrow scored a 7-2 victory in the tie-breaker in the final set to seal the win. The Orange also recorded victories in first, fourth and fifth singles. Senior Emily Harman rallied to win the final three games of the second set to defeat Yale junior Elizabeth Epstein, 6-2, 7-5. Freshman Amanda Rodgers won her tenth consecutive singles match, 6-2, 6-3. Senior Alessondra Parra also scored a win, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

Syracuse will be back on the courts with road matches at West Virginia and then at Pittsburgh. Syracuse is 3-4 overall against the top 75 ITA schools during the 2012 season.
