Last night in World TeamTennis action, the Boston Lobsters defeated the Newport Beach Breakers 22-14, and with the win, Boston advanced to the 2011 WTT playoffs, eliminating the New York Sportimes with their victory. The two teams were both tied in the standings with matching 7-7 records, but the tie-breaker went to the Lobsters with a higher total of games won in their head-to-head matchups, giving them the edge and playoff berth.

Boston will now do battle with the undefeated Washington Kastles, who beat the Sportimes this past Wednesday with the help of Serena Williams. The Kastles went 14-0 on the year, becoming only the second team to go
an undefeated 14-0 since the Newport Beach Dukes in 1994.

The Sacramento Capitals were the final team to qualify for the WTT Finals Weekend. The Capitals defeated the Springfield Lasers, 21-17 last night to qualify as the number two seed in the Western Conference. Sacramento will now do battle with the St. Louis Aces on Saturday, July 23rd at 5:00 p.m. Three of the four playoff spots were decided on the final night of the WTT season. St. Louis clinched the first seed in the Western Conference with a
23-15 win over the Kansas City Explorers.
