Maria Kirilenko has advanced into the semifinals at the Guangzhou Open after defeating Tetiana Luzhanska of the Ukraine in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5. She will advance to play Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa, who defeated Urszula Radwanska to also qualify for the semis.

On the other side of the draw, Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia and Zheng Jie of China will face off in hopes of advancing to the finals. Zheng was once ranked 15th, however, has dropped to 83rd since her career high in 2009. She has come out of wrist injuries which restricted her play in the earlier part of the year.
