American Andy Roddick defeated Grigor Dmitrov of Bulgaria, 7-6 (3), 7-5, to advance to the third round of the Shanghai Masters. Roddick, who is seeded 10th in this tournament and is currently ranked 15th in the ATP Rankings, came back from being down a break in the second set and also saved a set point before breaking Dimitrov at love to close out the match.

Dimitrov finished with 28 winners in the match, nearly twice as many as Roddick. However, he made 51 unforced errors, which Roddick took advantage of. Roddick advances to play seventh-seeded Nicholas Almagro of Spain, who defeated his fellow countryman, Tommy Robredo, in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
