The upset of the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open so far came at the expense of Russian Ana Ivanovic, who was a 3-6, 2-6 loser to Anne Viensouk Keothavong of Great Britain. Keothavong advances to face Bibiane Schoofs of the Netherlands, who was a 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 winner over Canada’s Rebecca Marino.

Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, ranked number three in the world, also defeated Italy’s Alberta Brianti, 6-0, 6-1. Azarenka advances to face the unseeded Iveta Benešová of the Czech Republic, a winner over the number seven seed, Maria Kirilenko of Russia, after Kirilenko was forced to withdraw due to injury.

Also advancing was the number six seed, Julia Goerges of Germany, a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Tamira Paszek of Austria. Goerges will seek a berth to the quarterfinals when she faces Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia.
