Roger Federer defeated Kei Nishikori in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, to take the title at the Swiss Indoors final, his first title in the past 10 months. This is his fifth win here out of the last six held, and as always, it is a emotional win as this is the tournament he used to work at as a ballboy.

"It’s always the greatest for me to win the title here. See you next year," said Federer on court. He defeated Japan’s Nishikori who upset Novak Djokovic in the semifinals to advance to the finals. "He was too good for me today. I tried to do my best but he wouldn’t let me," said Nishikori. Nishikori may now be ranked as high as 25 on the ATP standings, which will be the highest a Japanese male tennis player has ever been ranked.

Federer is currently fourth-ranked and 30-years-old and this was his first tournament played outside the top three since 2003. "It’s been a great week. I got better as the week went on and I saved the best for last," he said.

This tournament had five of the top 10 players in the world competing, and ended with just one of the top 10 playing the 32nd-seeded Nishikori. Federer’s next tournament will be the Paris Masters, which commences this week.
