Roger Federer has committed to play for Switzerland against the United States in the first round of the Davis Cup in 2012. The Swiss federation of tennis states that Federer has confirmed he will play in the Feb. 10-12 series.

This will be the first time Federer plays a first round match since 2004. He decided he would assist in choosing the clay surface as he feels it will benefit the Swiss team's strengths against the U.S. Federer has also planned to play for Switzerland in the London Olympics this upcoming summer.
