Croatia’s tennis federation has ruled out Goran Ivanisevic as the next captain of its Davis Cup team due to financial demands. The federation said that Ivanisevic requested $130,600 for a one-year contract, which was considered too expensive. However, Ivanisevic will lead Croatia against Japan in first round Davis Cup action Feb. 10-12, but will not be paid for his role.

Goran Prpic, former Croatian captain, resigned as head of the country’s Davis Cup and Fed Cup teams last month. Croatia has named former French Open champion Iva Majoli as captain of the country’s Fed Cup team.
