Tuesday saw two local hopefuls take to the courts at the Australian Open and both came up with performances to make the Tri-State area proud.
On the women's singles side of play, Christina McHale of Teaneck, N.J. defeated Marina Erakovic of New Zealand, coming back from a set down to win her second round match in three tough sets, 3-6, 7-6, 6-3. McHale is still the second-highest ranked American woman in the draw and will now take on 13th seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia.
Long Island's Scott Lipsky, along with his partner Rajeev Ram, are seeded 13th in the Men's Doubles draw and defeated the team of Albert Montanes & Albert Ramos of Spain in straight sets, 7-6, 7-6 in their first round match. The team of Lipsky & Ram will now face the winner of the match between Michael Mertinak & Andre Sa vs. Alexadr Dolgopolov & Denys Molchanov.
