USTA Eastern returns to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum on Thursday, Feb. 23 to host a 10 & Under Tennis clinic with French Open Doubles Champion and ESPN Commentator Patrick McEnroe. The clinic, which is being held for the second consecutive year at the Intrepid, will give children a chance to learn tennis using equipment tailored to their age and size, and meet McEnroe who, as General Manager of USTA Player Development, is using 10 and Under Tennis to help develop the next generation of American tennis champions.

The event is part of the Museum’s Annual Kids Week, Feb. 18-26, which features dozens of fun, educational and interactive activities for kids during President’s Week vacation.

“We are very excited to bring 10 and Under Tennis aboard the Intrepid once again,” said Michelle Blake Wilson, managing director of marketing and communications for USTA Eastern. “And we are fortunate this year to be joined by Patrick McEnroe, who is using the kid-friendly format to train high-performing junior players across the country.”

In his 11-year professional career (1988-98), McEnroe won one singles and 16 doubles titles, including the 1989 French Open doubles title. He reached a career-high singles ranking of 28th in 1995 and an individual doubles high of number three in 1993. He has also served as Captain of the U.S. Davis Cup team and is a respected television and radio commentator who has worked for ESPN and CBS, among others.

McEnroe is a leading advocate for USTA 10 & Under Tennis, which is designed around the same concepts as Little League Baseball and other youth sports, all of which use equipment and field/court sizes scaled to the size of young children. The scaled-down equipment and smaller playing fields allow kids to achieve success the first time out—and sustain that success as they continue develop and refine their skills. The 10 & Under Tennis equipment at the clinic is sponsored by Wilson Sporting Goods.

In addition to the clinic, there will also be a wide range of fun on- and off-court activities, including a photo station and raffles every hour for a chance to win kids’ size tennis racquets and free tickets to the BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Garden. The BNP Paribas Showdown will be held on Monday, March 5 and feature Andy Roddick vs. Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova vs. Caroline Wozniacki.
