Second Leg of 2012 Metro Regional Playoffs Wraps at BJK USTA National Tennis Center

The second leg of the 2012 Metro Regional Playoffs took place Saturday, May 19 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and a few regional teams are now moving on to the Sectional Championships in Schenectady, N.Y.

On a beautiful spring Saturday, Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn mixed-doubles teams competed for the 6.0 Level crown, while Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx competed for the 8.0 mixed-doubles championship. The teams who collectively scored the most points would be able to move on to play in the Sectional Championships which will take place in Schenectady, N.Y. The 7.0 Regional Champs was from Queens, captained by Lauren Kende & Stephanie Vogt, and was crowned a week prior. 

At the end of the day, the 6.0 Regional Champs was the team captained by Janice Bateh & Chrissa Caponi from Brooklyn. In the 8.0 Division, it came down to Queens vs. the Bronx. Queens took the first set in quick fashion, however, they struggled to keep form in the second set, losing 5-7. The third set was decided in a 10-point tie-breaker in which Queens was able to relinquish the victory and won it 10-5. The victory means that the Queens 8.0 mixed-doubles team, Team Davoren, will move on to compete in the upcoming Sectional Championships in Schenectady, N.Y.
