Louisa Chirico from Harrison, N.Y. took the court twice on Tuesday at the U.S. Open, playing in both the Girls Junior Singles and Doubles Tournaments. In her first round singles match, Louisa, seeded 10th in the tournament, took on Viktoriya Lushkov. Louisa took control of the match early and never gave up control, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. After the match, Chirico seemed pleased with her performance saying, "I think I played well. The crowd pumps me up so it’s really cool having my friends and family here."

In her second round match on Thursday, Chirico will take on fellow American Michaela Gordon. Gordon is from California, setting up an East Coast-West Coast encounter. Asked about her goals for this tournament, Chirico said, "I’m going to take one match at a time. If I return well, hold my serve and win the big points I will hopefully put myself in a position to be successful."

Her father, John, and mother, Carol, were cheering her on, and after the match, John said, "Her opponent was a tough player, but I thought Louisa played great today."

Asked if he gets nervous during matches, John added, "I’m proud of her, and I’ve learned to trust her. As she has grown up it has gotten much easier to watch and enjoy the matches."

In her doubles match on Tuesday, Chirico didn’t have the same success, as she and her partner, Alejandra Cisneros from Mexico, who were seeded sixth, fell in a tough super tie-breaker to the team of Mami Adachi & Hikari Yamamoto from Japan, 3-6, 6-4, 6-10.
