Pratt Wins Third Consecutive HVIAC Women’s Tennis Championship

Pratt Institute won its third straight Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Women's Tennis Championship, capturing seven of nine flights at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Saturday afternoon. The 2013 HVIAC Champions also placed a league-best three members on the HVIAC All-Conference Team, with three-time player of the week freshman Agata Jakubowska, undefeated junior Gabriella Guerra, and senior Whitney Mills earning all-league honors.

Cannoneers head coach Shawn Cummings was named HVIAC Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 10-2 regular season and undefeated 4-0 finish in league play in his first year at the helm.

Jakubowska formalized her spot as the league's top individual player by earning the number one singles title. The first-year phenom teamed with junior Sarah Conant (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) for the latter's second straight number one doubles flight championship.

The reigning HVIAC Player of the Week, Guerra capped an undefeated season in which she went 11-0 as a singles competitor and 11-0 in doubles play with a number three singles crown. She teamed with senior Whitney Mills in taking the league's number two doubles title, which is Guerra's third number two doubles title in three seasons. Guerra & Mills return to the all-confernece team, an honor both earned last in 2011.

After winning a number two singles title a year ago, Sarah Conant captured this year's number four singles championship. Fellow junior Carson Stanch who won the 2011 number four singles title, earned a number five singles championship this afternoon. Senior Janet Lee meanwhile, closed out her career with a number six singles title.
