The NYIT men’s tennis team knocked off 41st-ranked Southeastern Oklahoma State 7-2 on Monday, handing the Savage Storm its first loss of the season and moving the Bears to 5-2 on the season.

Despite losing the first singles match, 14th-ranked NYIT took control of the match in doubles play. Tiago Ferreira & Alberto Blesa knocked off David Jiang & Nico Jubera 8-4 at second doubles, while the NYIT duo of Matej Selecky & Rafal Charkiewicz defeated Maxim Fil & Jack Gibbens 8-6 at third doubles.

At second singles, Julio Pulido notched a 6-2, 6-3 win over Blesa, while Selecky ousted Ferreira 6-2, 6-1. The Bears would win the rest of the singles contests to coast to a 7-2 victory and snap SE Oklahoma State’s eight-match winning streak.

NYIT will return to the courts today when it plays at Lynn University at 2:00 p.m. from Boca Raton, Fla.

NYIT Sophomore Selecky (pictured right), who hails from Bratislava, Slovakia, was named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Player of the Week on Monday.
