Tennis Hacks: Impress the School Coach at Tryouts

I've learned a few "hacks" in my years of coaching that I would like to share weekly in this blog, beginning with "Part 1: Impress the School Coach at Tryouts."

So your trying out for the school team with numerous other players and you want to make your best impression on the coach? Here's a foolproof way to do just that … cct professional in between points!

The ratio of readiness for play to actual play is usually about 7:1, and since coaches are trying to see everyone at tryouts when they scan the courts, they will see a lot of behaviors in between points. Let's face it, it's human nature to judge players by their body language, attitude, posture and racket management  Act like a supremely experienced secure player even if you done feel confident. You will play better, and of equal importance, the coach is likely to view you as more experienced and competent.

Present yourself as poised and positive. This small edge might just be the difference between making the team or getting cut.
