Wozniacki Hopes for a Great Run

Caroline Wozniacki is going to run the 2014 New York City Marathon for the "Team for Kids" charity.

"When I cross the finish line in Central Park it will be one of the most proud days of my life, not only because of the personal accomplishment, but also because it will help thousand of kids to get healthy and fit through sports," Wozniacki said in a press release.

While tennis players Amelie Mauresmo, Yannick Noah and Justin Gimelstob all completed the New York City Marathon in 2010 after their retirement, Wozniacki will be one of a few professional athletes from other sports to compete in a marathon during their careers.

Those who have run 26.2 miles understand that you cannot just show up to the starting line no matter how fit you are.

You have to train for months to build the endurance and bone density needed to avoid injury. The average run in tennis is about seven feet with explosive starts, stops and quick multi-directional movement changes so that training to perform a constant paced, very long and linear run will wreak havoc on a top-level professional tennis player's body.

Caroline Wozniacki's movement patterns will be a mess, but her character is impeccable as she's running to empower and inspire children, and like Forrest Gump perhaps to heal her mending heart … Run Caroline, Run!
