Elina Svitolina and Marion Bartoli Added To Tie Break Tens Field at MSG

Tie Break Tens, the new fast-paced short-form tennis competition, announced on Wednesday that Elina Svitolina and Marion Bartoli will compete in its inaugural United States tournament, which will take place at the Madison Square Garden in New York City on Monday, March 5.

Svitolina and Bartoli join Serena and Venus Williams in the tournament’s field. .

Tie Break Tens tournaments are held over one day and involve eight players competing in a knock-out format, with each match consisting of a super tie-break to ten points. Tournaments last year were held in London, Vienna, Madrid and Melbourne, and the MSG tournament will have a $250,000 prize.

“The Tie Break Tens event at Madison Square Garden is shaping up to be a highlight of the tennis calendar,” said Felicity Barnard, CEO of Tie Break Tens. “With Elina and Marion entering the fray, the all-women tournament will be a great introduction of Tie Break Tens’ fast-paced, exciting format to American fans.”

Currently ranked No. 3 in the world, Elina Svitolina has won ten WTA singles titles, including her recent wins at the Dubai Tennis Championships, Italian Open and Canadian Open during the 2017 season.

“The opportunity to play Tie Break Tens with a world class line-up at such an iconic venue is incredibly exciting” said Svitolina. “Such a fast-paced format is always going to be a challenge, but I’m looking forward to using my competitive spirit and consistent play to give me the edge.”

Marion Bartoli is the 2013 Wimbledon Champion and reached her highest rank of World No. 7 in January 2012. She won eight WTA singles titles and three doubles titles before retiring from professional tennis in August 2013. The Tie Break Tens event at Madison Square Garden will be Marion’s first competition since coming out of retirement in December 2017.
