Fordham University honored more than 400 student-athletes who compiled a 3.00 or higher cumulative GPA at its 15th Annual Breakfast for Champions, and one of those students honored was Harris Durkovic, captain of the men’s tennis team.

Durkovic is also the president of the Fordham Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), whose mission is to assist in the creation of an environment where all athletes have the opportunity to maximize their academic, personal, and social growth.

In the past year, the organization placed a strong emphasis on sponsoring activities that led to community engagement, and raised money throughout the year at the school’s basketball games and other events. At the Breakfast for Champions, Durkovic, alongside SAAC Vice President Kristen Ryan, presented a check for $4,500 to the Fiver Children’s Foundation on behalf of the SAAC.

The Fiver Children’s Foundation is a comprehensive youth development organization that makes a 10-year commitment to children from underserved communities throughout New York City and central New York. Through character-building summer and year-round out-of-school time programs, Fiver empowers children to make ethical and healthy decisions, to become engaged citizens, and to succeed in school, careers, and life.

Durkovic will be graduating from the Gabelli School of Business this spring after a not only a decorated playing career but also making a positive impact in the community off the court.
